This is an ad for Direct Tv. I picked this because it isn’t really designed to sell their product… In fact, I’m not sure what it’s supposed to be doing. Maybe tips on how to keep your house from exploding? The only part of this (and their other ads like it) that have anything to do with their product(s) is at the very end, when their logo and phone number come up. Although I have to admit… I find these commercials stupidly hilarious. X3

This is Walmart’s homepage. In this case, unlike What I mentioned on Olive Garden’s website, I don’t think this is a very good webpage design. It isn’t as bad as some other sites, but it still has too much going on for this being a homepage. There aren’t exactly too many pictures on the page, but there’s so much other stuff going on, it squeezes them together and makes them seem clustered. I think it would work much better if they moved all of the left-hand links into one category, or moved them to just under the other links at the top. This would open up a little more space so the pictures wouldn’t be as clustered-looking.

Olive Garden’s font/logo was another inspiration for in making my “Measure” logo. Being a gourmet food store, I wanted it to be “fancy” looking with some curves, but maybe not as much as Olive Garden’s. I do think the semi-cursive font works well for them; since it’s an Italian restaurant. I also liked their uses of different shades of brown; which is most visible in the upper-right corner.

This is the website for Olive Garden. Their simple but elegant page design was one of the inspirations for my own web wireframe layout. Of course I’ve added/taken away some parts so they’re not exactly the same. As I mentioned; I like what they’ve done with their website because it is pretty simple, but still has a good balance when it comes to the amount of space taken up; along with what takes up that space.
